    Service Update

    Service Update

We are experiencing HUGE and unprecedented demand via telephone and email right now.

Be assured that all orders are being processed as usual but it may take us between 2 - 5 days to get back to emails and voicemails.

How are we able to process orders but not answer the phones you ask... well we have different teams that are trained and able to do different jobs - a bit like having a separate stomach that can handle pudding when you have just declared you are full from lunch : ) Not to mention being busier than ever fulfilling your lovely orders and having our biggest Christmas market weekend!

Thank you so much for your patience and we will be in touch soon. Pinky Promise.

Made to Last - Celebrating 40 years!

Made to Last - Celebrating 40 years!
We’ve hit a significant milestone this year - We’ve been running our business, Westmorland Sheepskins, for 40 years! Crikey! What better time to look back and reflect on our heritage, challenges and triumphs along the way – and of course what our future holds.

Saying no to plastic – We are going greener!

Saying no to plastic – We are going greener!

My first blog post - Eek!  But what better time to write a blog on how we are reducing plastic use as a business than in July whilst Plastic Free July is happening.  This is something I am super passionate about personally and I wanted to let all our lovely customers know just how plastic free we are and what we are doing to further cut our plastic use. We’re not just sticking to doing these changes in July though don’t worry!

The ‘war on plastic’ is one of the most talked about environmental issues. It is found everywhere. As a business we have a duty to do our bit to tackle this issue. We try to minimise our plastic use in every step. Here’s what we do,

Westmorland Sheepskins have always looked at ways to reduce our waste and also push our suppliers to do the same. Our own Brand slippers now come in cotton bags, I say now but we’ve done this for the past 2 years or so! The cotton bags are great little keep sakes, we encourage them to be reused and reused and reused – we’d love to see how you use yours.

Brown paper bags – we don’t give out plastic bags. We give customers who need a bag a paper bag which is made using recycled paper and is widely recycled too.

Our most exciting plastic reducing news for our little business is if you order online with us, we have just swapped the plastic slippers bags, that would usually be sent, to a paper bag. We are so blummin’ proud of the way it looks as well at the fact it is hugely more environmentally friendly.

The design of the bag was created by the very Talented Ellie Mae, we have been working with Ellie for a few years now. She went to Leeds Art College and not only do we love that we could keep it local but we love her fun Yorkshire vibe/illustrations and thick Barnsley accent!

We are looking to see if we can get some smaller bags made too for smaller items bought – watch this space.

If you have ordered household items from us you may have noticed a ‘reduce and reuse’ stamp on the box. The box may not be in perfect condition but that is because we have reused it. All other new cardboard boxes are made out of recycled cardboard too and the tape used is paper based and widely recycled.

    On a slightly different note..

The fixtures and fittings we have in the shop are made from wood, metal or glass. Many of which are repurposed from other shops when they’ve had a refit. Bonus!

We have a new warehouse unit which has been an exciting change for our little company. Not only is all the racking either second hand or hand made from old pallets, we store everything directly onto shelves or in cardboard boxes, not plastic ones. We then recycle any boxes that we can’t reuse.

We know we are not perfect but as the saying goes – we don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.  We know this is a work in progress. We will commit to making changes where we can in order to reduce our impact to a minimum.

    Thanks for reading!
